The responsible authority for Public Rights of Way is the Highways Authority and that is Wiltshire Council whom employ a ROW Officer.
Broad Chalke has many ancient footpaths and these are identified on what is known as the Definitive Map. This is a legal document showing the route of all the ROW (footpaths and bridleways). Every 2-3 years the Parish Council undertake a ROW inspection and summarise any issues so that any action can be taken. There is also an ongoing dialogue with Wiltshire's ROW Officer as we all use the footpaths and can advise of issues as and when we become aware of them. Often it is a case of bringing the matter to the attention of the landowner to deal with. Information on the Rights and Powers the Parish Council has are set out in the attached guidance note |
